NBFC – NATIONAL BIODIVERSITY FUTURE CENTER
Palermo, Sicily
In May 2024, on the occasion of World Biodiversity Day, the National Biodiversity Future Center organized the National Biodiversity Forum in Palermo, Italy. The days were dedicated to talking about and celebrating the diversity of organisms and ecosystems on our planet. The first NBFC Annual Report on the State of Biodiversity in Italy was presented, an important document with which the NBFC scientific community opened a dialogue with citizens and institutions to guide institutional practices and policies, creating awareness about biodiversity as a possible solution to our current environmental and socio-cultural crisis.
The best work of the new generation of scientists was recognized and, on that occasion, we designed and produced backpacks to be given to the winning researchers, made of ripstop nylon sail – light, durable and capacious – and customized with a handmade silkscreen print representing the logo of the National Biodiversity Future Center.
In the very heart of Vienna’s colourful Prater district, Superbude is a hotel, a house, and a hostel. In their own words:“What is normal today? We are not and hotels are not what they used to be. We like to be ourselves, so you can feel the same. Just the way you want to. We see Superbude as a place for get-togethers, meetups and a cosy home from home rather than a huge hotel monster”. And to make their family rooms even more cosy, they commissioned us our yellow and blue bean bag chairs from the SICILY MARKETS collection.
RADICI
Piccolo Museo della Natura _ Palermo, Sicily
Radici (roots) is a Museum that was founded where there was once an historic stationery store, closed for years now. But in the imagination of all of us, that place has always had a cultural sacredness typical of old stationery stores, filled with a thousand drawers and shelves laden with wonders. It has regained its dignity thanks to the splendid work done to create the Small Museum of Nature, designed by taking care to restore the old furnishings and revive them in a way suitable for the enjoyment of curious users. For the textiles in the museum, Radici chose 100% linen Olona canvas.
For the upholstery of the refreshment area, we combined the raw color of the Olona canvas with rust-colored cotton, and for the play/reading area, we came up with a 2 1/2-meter long pouf. Pure fun!
La Camparia
Loungebar on the beach _ Favignana, Trapani
La Camparìa in the island of Favignana used to be a complex of depots for the storage of the tools employed in the Mattanza, the traditional tuna fishing in the Aegadian islands. An admirable architectural renovation has turned it into a shop, lounge and wine bar. For the lounge, close to the beach, we created the speaker covers and the bean bag chairs from the CANAPONI collection, perfectly camouflaged in the sand. Finally, commissioned by A&D interiors (Adriana and Donata arte e design), we designed for the shop a mini collection of maxi cushions called Camparìa – its blues and greens blending in the brightness of white and sandy of the linen/hemp. You’ll also find them in our online shop!
Studio Lyga, while re-shaping the interior design of Circolo della Vela in Palermo, asked us to create some special I WAS A SAIL elements for them – the showers partitions. And what better fabric for that than the unused sails from the club’s own shed? Furthermore, for the bar-room and the dining room we realized three large lampshades made out of Kevlar/carbon sails, thus completing the awesome setting up by Studio Lyga of Gaia and Lycia Trapani.
Caffè Internazionale
Palermo, Sicily
This is a place with some history – a meeting place for artists and musicians. Caffè Internazionale asked us to recover all the seats left over from the previous management, re-thinking them along the lines of our SICILY MARKETS collection and matching them with newly made cushions. We reupholstered everything worth salvaging with scraps of German outdoor fabrics from the 1980s in 100% polished cotton, harmonising it with the vaguely psychedelic palette of Caffè Internazionale.
