CREW
JUNKLE'S CREW
ILARIA
FOUNDER | CEO
An entrepreneuring creature, said to be able to get a thousand things done at once.
She has reportedly been seen in two places at the same time – that must be how she manages to litter the city with house keys, fresh fish and glasses. In the end, as if by magic, everything gets back to its place (fish not included, that is).
Ilaria smiles, dreams and makes those around her dream with her farfetched (in the best sense), post-apocalyptic projects [JUNKLE is one of them].
She loves yellow.

CONCETTA
HEAD OF PRODUCTION
She picks wild vegetables in the fields, lives on a boat moored in Palermo’s Cala and has a tendency to oversleep. Don’t try to sell her the idea that the early bird catches the worm – she’s the epitome of Happy Degrowth.
Sly and full of guile, Concetta is the ideal working companion in the workshop – and the one who deals with the most ill-tempered among the clientéle.
She never throws anything away.

NINA
Nina observes clouds, small things, and everything else, because that’s where she loves to surprise herself (though she rarely claims as much), shape shifting into an owl and unearthing new visual languages in which to dance lightly.
Never too eager, never forced, never obvious. Young, the youngest of the crew; it shows, and when the unexpected playlist starts, it’s also clear.
Then there is the matter of the banana peels she leaves everywhere: distraction, sabotage or experimentation on the yellow palette?
The mystery remains.

IFRATH
When we first met Ifrath, we were desperate for a co-worker: today she sets the pace for the daily commitment that is needed to be consistent on the job. She succeeds with her precision, a smile, and unwavering tenacity, because when she starts a job she has to complete it in the best possible way.
But in spite of how good she is at sewing, we love her most of all because she makes superlative lemon grass soup, and with that she has won us over forever.
LIVIA
She’s been teaching fashion design in Florence for many years, but was born and bred in Brescia. Spoiler: she’s kept her accent! Extremely well-organised ( fridge-wise and work-wise ) she enjoys designing women’s collections between a glass of Chianti and a trip to the sea.
Liable to lose sight of the forest for the trees?
Maybe, but she always finds her way out of the forest.
Rumour has it, she loves Palermo.

MARA
Not unlike Windex for Thula’s father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, you use her on everything and she gets problems solved. A veritable workshop fetish, she moves from where you just left her to where you will soon need her again.
When reminded that she has been bought cheaply, she convincingly retorts that it was a mistake.
Every autumn she longs to go into hibernation – but at the same time the idea of prolonged immobility gives her bouts of panic.

VALENTINA
Our woman in Denmark – and, more generally, always in the right place at the right time to pick up sails for JUNKLE – haunting harbours, boathouses, and sailmakers.
A sailing instructor, Pilates teacher, accountant, and the winner of countless competitions, Valentina disliked formal dressing, loved the sea unconditionally, and always found a way to light a fire when on a beach at sunset.

ALICE
She loves transforming the colour and shape of her hair – to the extent that you may periodically struggle to recognise her although having attended the same nursery, primary and secondary school. The living proof that one can smile, smile and a be perfectionist, she maintains she can’t remember how she switched from archaeology to photography.

TURI
Turi fiddles with pixels and carpentries, assisted by his faithful Bic® 4-Colour.
He tells all the people of Palermo that he misses Mount Etna, where he dreams of moving as soon as possible to laze among the black sciara and the yellow gorse. He jealously guards a Lagostina® spoon, which he claims is the most beautiful object ever.
The mere sight of vintage market stalls gives him a slight dizziness.
He fasts at night.

ALFIE
The first casualty of Brexit, he’s still in love with 1970s Britain, reminiscing about that in a distinctly Panormitan accent (you can be nice and say there’s a touch of Yorkshire lilt to it) or endlessly talking about Shakespeare and pop culture. His best profile is his right, so don’t attempt to photograph him from the other side!
He likes to walk around in his – vegetarian – biker jacket and look at his reflection in shop windows.
